Working with ceiling height, and building height with proportion principals

M. Design Interiors Inc.
Proportion is the comparison of objects size that has a great role in the impression of home and interior design. For example; a small chair between large sofas has a too small proportion. Houses with short ceilings for a tall person will feel less comfortable. A good proportion can bring comfortable, beautiful and functional room.

Room and space proportion may effect the impression of the room. When a room has low ceiling, the proportion effect will be smaller room and crowded. We can also feel a 'pressure' inside this small room. When the ceiling room is high, the effect will be more spacious and roomy.

This trick can be done when a room is too small, we can make the ceiling higher to make spacious impression. The opposite way we can do for a too large room if it is too wide, the ceiling can be lower (but of course, has to remain proportional) to make a more narrow space. This means that the high scale of the room can influence the effect of  a room proportion.

Building with high proportion (vertically), are usually having monumental impression that can be a very interesting building compared to other buildings. Low building has more down to earth impression. High proportion will create dignified impression and can also becom a symbol of luxury. Therefore, usually luxurious houses often use high proportion, for example; high room.

Low building may bring comfort, because of its friendly and embracement to our feelings when we see the building. This warm effect, may reflect a warm and friendly owner, especially when added with plant elements, will be more inviting with hospitality of a home.
