Name and kinds of sofa. How many kinds of sofa do you know?

How many kinds of sofa do you know? There should be some names in your mind: couch, love seat, sofa... and what else? There are more, about 10 more name of sofas, wonder what they are named? Here we go:

"Sofa"

it is coming from arabic words described as long upholstered seat for more than one one person.

"Divan"

it is named from a Turkish word for a large, low coush without arms or back. Usually it has piles of rugs for reclining.

"Settles"

These are wood settees, used in Colonial days before a fire to trap heat with their high backs.

"Couch"

Familiar name for sofa, meant a long uphostered piece with a low back and one raised end for reclining.

"Floor pads"

These are mattresses placed directly on the floor, often heaped with cushions, for relaxed lounging. If they can be folded over to form a seating unit, it will be called 'futtons' or the traditional Japanese sleeping pads.

"Longue"

It is referred to a couch without back but with one high end for reclining. Now it is a term for a couch that is very comfortable and inviting to relax.

"Chesterfield"

is an overstuffed sofa with upholstered ends.

"Davenport"

it is used in United States describing an upholstered sofa that can be extended into a bed, but it is actually the word designated a small writing desk named after its maker.

"Love seats"

Means a small sofa for two people, that should be meant for couples.

"Settee"

mean a light double seat with a back

"Sofa bed" or "Sleeper"

it is a sofa that can function as a bed,  for sitting and sleeping.

"Modular sofas"

they are separated sofas that can be combined to form a big sofa, usually with corner modular sofa

"Seating platform"

This is a built in sofa, measured with precision for nice comfortable room

The use of sofas usually based on the dimension of the room, whether it is large, or small room, or whether it may function as a bed. Choosing the right sofa can be a bit confusing, but we need to remember size first, and then the level of comfort we need.
