The right fridge for your home

"Still Life #30," Tom Wesselmann, April 1963

If your kitchen is already designed to accommodate integrated appliances, and you are just updating your freezer, then the new freezer must be no bigger than your old one. If you’re considering a new freezer, be aware that it will add to your monthly utility bill. If the area where you live is prone to brownouts or power failures, a chest freezer will be the better choice.

There are bottom mount models with a single door for the refrigerated area and place the freezer at the bottom of the unit, are becoming popular cause offer more space than a side by side model and put the most used compartment, the refrigerator area at a comfortable, eye level height. Fridge freezers are generally available in three widths and a range of different heights. Uprights contain multiple shelves and door storage. It makes practical to stack and organize canning jars and freezer containers. It’s more expensive than chest freezers. Due to the rush of warm air every time you open the door, uprights are less energy efficient than chest frezeers. Chest freezer have better temperature control and hold more items than uprights.

Both refrigerators and freezers use more energy than other household appliances.
Freezers rated appliances are the most efficient, whereas a freezer with a G-rating is not only less efficient but also costs more to run. Pay attention to the yellow energy guide label on the appliance and consider buying a freezer that exceeds minimum energy standards, it will return your investment and then some. Always look for a model with a good warranty, which should cover your appliance’s parts for one year and its sealed refrigeration system for five years. Make sure your fridge and freezer is easy to use and maintain. You have a choice among black, white, almond, and stainless steel finishes, which bears a professional appearance, could increase your home’s resale value and that are easier to keep clean and sometimes come at lower price points. Freezers emit some level of background sound; choose the lower noise level dB, the quieter the appliance will be.
